Alyson is the product of an extra-marital affair between General Rick Cooper, who was then married to Isabelle Lapointe, and father of Alexandra Cooper, who was thirteen years old, and Alexia Jones, the CEO of a major brewery in Canberra, Australia.
Alyson has lived with an absent father figure and a distant, workaholic mother with low self-esteem, who brought home a different man almost every three months or so. Of course Alyson thought it was a normal way of life until she was old enough to know it wasn’t. However, she didn’t judge her mother’s way of life.
When she was seven years old, her mother’s brewery was merged with one based in Montreal, Canada, and Alexia became vice-president of the new merged brewery, thus becoming even more distant. Alyson was sent to a private elementary school, but had trouble fitting in with the other children, and spent most of her time alone. However, even though she was the loner of her class, she was a straight-A student. She didn’t get those grades to be able to attend the best of high schools, but mostly to get her mother’s attention and approval.
When she began high school, she still got straight A’s, but her grades waned when she started to wane when she realized that it wasn’t getting her mother attention. At 15, she changed as drastically as anyone can, and became a rebel without a cause. She started clubbing, smoking, drinking, and breaking curfew regularly. She also started dating men who were well over her age, and sleeping around in between relationships.
At last, around graduation time, she got her mother’s attention. Not in the way she had anticipated, but she was at least talking to Alyson. They yelled at each other for more than three hours, arguing about her dropping grades, the fact that Alyson had started stealing her mother’s money to buy pot, and just recently, heroin and cocaine. Alexia had threatened to kick Alyson out of the house if she didn’t settle down, but she had retaliated by packing her bags and leaving out of her own free will, and went to live with her boyfriend of that time.
Fortunately, this one was one of the rare ones who had a good influence on her, and he had convinced her to go into rehabilitation during the summer, before she attended college in Administration. Thus, she spent three months in a rehab facility, paid for by her boyfriend, and was free of her drug addiction by the time she attended college.
Early in her first semester, she dropped out of college, only attending her general course, like French, English, phys. ed., and philosophy, and changed programs shortly thereafter, to take the bartending course, as she was working as a bartender at one of the many local bars in town. During her time in college, she also joined a rock band, having learned how to play guitar at a young age, and played in the bars in town on the weekends.
She graduated college with higher-than-average marks, and soon after, started working in one of the pubs inside the Ritz-Carlton hotel, in downtown Montreal. She had moved out in her own apartment by then, and was living life more responsibly.
One day, during one of the busiest times of the year, she was washing the glasses behind the counter when a Starfleet officer, who was on shoreleave, asked her for an exotic cocktail, one he didn’t think she would know how to make.
Obviously, it wasn’t one that she concocted often, but with her intensive training, she able to mix it up to perfection. As the officer took his first sip, he frowned, and set the glass on the table. Alyson wasn’t too sure what was happening, when he offered her a job as a bar manager in Starfleet, claiming that she made the best Pinstriped Tigers he had ever tasted. He gave her a few days to think about it, meaning until his leave was over, and she accepted by that time, as it would be a good opportunity to learn how to mix even more exotic drinks while traveling to space, something she had always wanted to do anyway.
Little did she know, however, that she would be assigned to a spanking new station, with a newer-than-new crew: Obsidian Command. And she’d be the sole manager of one of the ship’s lounges. She would have plans for this little piece of heaven… |
