Science officers serve in the Science Department on starships or starbases. The head of the department is known as the Chief Science Officer and usually operates the science station on the bridge or operations center.
The Science department researches everything unkown so far, varying from enemy vessels to nebulas, from star dust to novas. Often working in the background as a support role to the rest of the crew, these officers are very valuable in tactical planning and other operations.
The Nebula Class starship is one of the few starships that is build and used for Science purposes, these vessels will not be the first ships to go into combat.
